This US Post Office and Courthouse is a historic civic building located at 300 Easat Washington Street. It was built in 1937 and was designed to house the local post office and federal court facilities. It continues to perform these functions. The Woodside Building was constructed in 1923 as Greenville's first skyscraper and the tallest building in either North or South Carolina. It served as the banking HQ for John T. No. 10607. No. 158086. Printed in Germany. The US Post Office, Courthouse and federal building, located at Irby and W. Evan Streets, Florence County was built in 1906 and had a 3 story addition added in 1935. it served as a courthouse for the Eastern District of South Carolina from 1906 until 1965. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 21, 1977. In 2017 Francis Marion University purchased the building and it will be used for instructional purposes. No. 2, No. 25504. Built between 1917 and 1921. Construction started in 1917 but was delayed during WW 1 when materials destined for the building were diverted to Camp (Fort) Jackson. The building was completed in 1921 and served as a post office until 1966. When the post office moved to a larger building the state acquired the Neo Classical building and converted it into quarters for the South Carolina Supreme Court. The famous Fireproof Building, constructed of steel and stone in 1822 as the county records building, so named because it was Amercia's first attempt at fireproof construction. It was designed by Robert Mills, who later designed the United States Treasury Building and Washington Monument. It is believe to be the oldest fire resistant building in America today. The building has undergone renovation and will reopen in the summer of 2018 as the South Carolina Historical Society Museum, which will include an exhibit on the history of the Fireproof Building. The Charles E. Simons, Jr., US Court House was completed in 1935 as part of the Public Works Administration. It is located at 223 Park Ave. in Aiken County. It is a Georgian Revival building and it has housed federal courts, US District Court for the District of South Carolina, and agencies since its completion. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 10, 2003. It was slated for closure in 2012 but it was spared. There is a 1938 mural here titled Justice as Protector and Avenger.
