This handsome structure, built entirely of Georgia marble, faces on beautiful Wright Park in the center of the business section. On the rear corner of the building may be found a plate marking the location where John Wesley held regular services from May 9, 1736 to November 27, 1737. Orignially desingated as the U.S. Post Office and Courthouse, the structure was later renamed the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse. By July 30, 1899, all departments of the post office were in the new government building. It also housed the U.S. Courts, the U.S. Engineers, and the U.S. Weather Bureau.
