Ocmulgee national Monument preserves traces of over ten millennia of Southeastern Native American culture. Historic Macon is located near the site of an Indian village whih was in existence two centuries before Columbus came. This village site is now owned and has been developed by the National Park Service as the archaeological center for the Southeast. The magnificent Museum Building at Ocmulgee National Monument contains displays from excavations of historical and pre-historical interest.
