Description

Raleigh, N.C. U. S. Government Building and Wake Co. Court House.No. 5071. This Post Office Building was the first to be erected in the South after the Civil War and cost about $400,000. Wake Co. was created in 1771, but the first Court House was not built until 1800. The present structure was erected on teh same site in 1835 and remodeled in 1882 at an expense of $45,000.
