K-22 U. S. Post Office, Kingsport, Tenn, No. 1426. Commissioned in 1925, constructed in 1930-1931, the old Kingsport Post Office is located at 400 Broad Street and is now the J. Fred Johnson Kingsport Public Library. It is named in honor of J. Fred Johnson, who came to Tennessee form Hillsville, Virginia and is remembered as the "Father of Kingspport" for helping plan the town. Kingsport, Tenn, a City of planned modern indusstrial development began its growth in 1916 with a population of only 600. Today greater Kingsport has a population of around 35,000. Kingsport is one of the most important industrial and distribution centers in Tennessee. It is also called a city of churches and schools. There are many places of interest to the visitor in and around Kingsport and motor roads from five States converge here. The facilities of the Tri-City's Airport are available to those travelling by air.
