Description

United States Court House and Post Office, Florence, S.C. No. 10607. No. 158086. Printed in Germany. The US Post Office, Courthouse and federal building, located at Irby and W. Evan Streets, Florence County was built in 1906 and had a 3 story addition added in 1935. it served as a courthouse for the Eastern District of South Carolina from 1906 until 1965. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on Dec. 21, 1977. In 2017 Francis Marion University purchased the building and it will be used for instructional purposes. Message on back: Had to stay in Dillon about ten days longer than I expected. No trains were running, many R.R. birdges were washed away. The R.R. companies have suffered heavy losses.
